Learn Something New Every Meeting at CBTM

Last week the club was treated to two speeches using the fast-paced PechaKucha format.

PechaKucha is a style of presentation that allows you to speak in an engaging manner on literally any topic.  The presentation displays 20 images, each for 20 seconds and advances automatically as you speak.  Learn more here and stay tuned for information on an upcoming PechaKucha training hosted by Clara Barton Toastmasters (CBTM).

Kicking off the speech portion of the meeting, Jenny wowed with a dynamic presentation detailing how the Shakespeare Theater Company’s Acting for Business Professionals class could be a great complement to Toastmasters.  We agree, Jenny!

Richard switched gears to colorfully explain how “geeks” and diplomats are working together to execute better 21st century diplomacy.  As the Director of the Office of E-Diplomacy at the State Department, no one was in a better position to give this talk.

Upcoming Events:

CBTM is holding a bonus meeting on Tuesday, October 30.  It promises to be a spooky good time!

Also on October 30 is the District Humorous and Table Topics Contest at the World Bank.

For information on attending either event, visit this link and contact us!

Finally, a special congratulations goes to Rod Morgan, who recently achieved his Advance Leader Bronze status.  Way to go, Rod!  We are grateful for your leadership and commitment to Clara Barton Toastmasters.

Honoring America and Our Very Own Hometown Toastmasters Heroes

On September 11, Clara Barton Toastmasters hosted a very special meeting commemorating Patriots Day.  The mood was one of peace, camaraderie, and patriotism.  Table topics solicited spirited responses on everything from America's most historic landmark (Rashelle said Mt. Rushmore) to America's greatest sport (guest Erica said arguing!).  Tenise told us about her vision of the American dream and Kelly, an active member of the U.S. military, shared with us an impromptu message of encouragement for our troops.  Thanks to all members for contributing to a memorable and heartfelt meeting.

COMING UP:  On September 18, Clara Barton Toastmasters will be hosting a Humorous Speech Competition from 12pm-1:30pm at 2025 E Street, NW.  If you're not a member and would like to learn more about theclub, this will be a great opportunity to see our Toastmasters at their finest!   For more information and to contact CBTM officers, visit www.cbtm.us.    Hope to see you there!

Thank you to Toastmasters Victor Plaskett and Kelly McCoy for your service to our nation.  You are true heroes!
